Video | BOYS SOCCER: Lenox's Mike Abdalla sends the Millionaires to victory with a goal in the 39th minute.

LENOX — The Mount Greylock boys soccer team possessed the ball for a majority of the second half, but Lenox used a quick counter attack to produce the winning goal late in the match to win 2-1 on Wednesday evening.

With less than two minutes remaining in the second half, Sam Dils fed Naka O'Connor in the box, but a Lenox defender stepped in front of the shot, sending the ball the other way. The Millionaires worked the ball to Matt Heim and he fired a shot off the right post. The ball bounced backward and Mike Abdalla was in perfect position to collect the rebound and score, giving lifting the Millionaires (7-3-1, 3-1-1) to the victory.

"That's what we wanted all along, is to get Greylock to push," new Lenox head coach Camilo Bermudez said. "Greylock's going to go for the winner — get the ball to Nic [Baruch], get it to a midfielder and get forward. That's what happened. Matt ended up getting forward, got the shot off and we were in the right place at the right time."

In the 13th minute, Abdalla put the hosts on the board as Baruch sent a well-place through ball into the box, setting up his teammate for the goal. The Mounties increased their pressure from that point, however, generating several shots on goal.

Crow Brennan just missed scoring on a spinning shot that hit off the right post. Midway through the half, Lenox keeper Matt Tibbetts made a save on a Sam Dils header off a corner kick. The Mounties finally broke through in the 29th minute, when Jeffery Bath found Quinn Johnstadt for a close-range goal.

"It's frustrating because I thought we controlled many facets of that game," Greylock coach Blair Dils said. "[Lenox] had nice ball possession at stretches, but in the second half it was them looking to play that counter attack, kick-and-run style."

Greylock's best chance at a second goal may have came off a breakaway from Bath. The Mountie junior got behind the Lenox defense and sent a ball toward an open net, but Zi Santos came streaking across the goal to clear the ball.

The loss gives Greylock (5-3-1, 3-2) its second North Division loss. Both teams now have three conference wins.

Bermudez, the former Hoosac Valley and St. Joseph coach, earned the dramatic win in his first game coaching at his alma mater. He had just three practices with the team before Wednesday, but he said the players are responding to his tactics.

"Any type of change is hard," Bermudez said of taking over as head coach during the season. "People know that that's when they have to step up. That's when people are challenged the most. You have a situation where there is transition and change and that's when kids are most willing to really do what they need to do to keep it going."
