Missing blind woman found safe in neighbor's house


PITTSFIELD -- A legally blind woman who went missing about noon Thursday has been found safe, according to police and family members.

Santa Valle, 56, of 126 Appleton Ave., spent the night inside a neighbor's house, police said. The neighbor said Valle stayed in a vacant apartment in the upstairs of his home.

Police had issued a CodeRED alert concerning Valle on Thursday evening, hours after she was last seen in the vicinity of Dawes Avenue Variety,

According to police, in addition to blindness, Valle suffers several other health issues, including schizophrenia.

A search of the area in and around the Housatonic River was suspended after she was found Friday morning.
