Mom convicted of brutally beating son gets 22-year sentence

MONTICELLO, N.Y. >> A central New York woman has been sentenced more than two decades in prison after she was convicted of nearly beating her 3-year-old son to death.

Saundra Hansson was convicted in October of assault and obstruction of breathing or blood circulation. The 23-year-old woman from the Oswego County city of Fulton was sentenced Wednesday in Monticello in Sullivan County. She's to serve 22 years in prison and undergo five years of supervision after her release.

Hansson was visiting Sullivan County in June 2014 when she beat her son. Prosecutors say the boy would've died if someone at a bus terminal hadn't called police after seeing bruises and cuts on him.

The boy suffered a broken pelvis, clavicle, neck and arm as well as broken ribs and other internal injuries.
