Mount Everett softball beaten by Assabet Valley in D-III state semifinal

AMHERST -- Mount Everett's run to a state Division III softball championship came up just a bit short on Thursday afternoon.

Morgan Parmenter's RBI single in the top of the eighth inning broke a tie and Central Massachusetts champion Assabet Valley went on to beat the Western Mass. champion Eagles 3-1 at the University of Massachusetts.

Jennfer Casavant's RBI double scored Parmenter with an insurance run. Parmenter's younger sister Maddy retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth inning, touching off a big celebration.

"I want that to be us," said Mount Everett pitcher Alicia Bazonski, who watched the Aztecs celebrate.

Assabet Valley will play for the state title. The game is set for Saturday at Worcester State at 1 p.m.

Morgan DeGrenier's RBI single in the third inning scored Brooke Morehouse, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Bazonski and the Eagles nursed that lead until the top of the seventh when Maddy Parmenter tied the game with a run-scoring single through the drawn-in infield.

The Eagles had a chance in the seventh as Sam Hoover reached third with two outs, but Maddy Parmenter struck out Emily Coon to send the game into extra innings.
