NBT Bank opens Pittsfield financial center

Editor's note: This article was modified on Jan. 31, 2014 to reflect that NBT Bank has $7.7 billion in assets, not $7.7 million as previously stated.

PITTSFIELD -- New York state-based NBT Bank has opened its sixth branch in Berkshire County, this time a financial center at 54 North St.

The new branch is NBT's second in Pittsfield, joining the bank's outlet at 609 Merrill Road. NBT's other Berkshire branches are located in Great Barrington, Lee, Lenox and North Adams.

It is the third bank branch to be located in a small section of Pittsfield's main downtown thoroughfare, joining a Lee Bank branch at 75 North St., and a Berkshire Bank branch at 99 North St.

The Pittsfield Financial Center, as NBT's North Street office is called, is a full-service location that offers teller and lobby services, a walk-up ATM, and night depository services.

NBT spokeswoman Florence Doller said the new office is intended to act as a hub for the bank's Berkshire County operations. She said the bank didn't realize how close the three branches are to each other.

"That's interesting," she said. "From an NBT Bank perspective, downtown Pittsfield is an important hub in the city and county and we wanted to add a a location more focused on commercial banking in downtown Pittsfield. The location is probably coincidental."

Branch Manager Joseph Lotano will oversee both NBT locations in Pittsfield, while commercial banking relationship manager Steven Munger will maintain his office at the North Street outlet.

Munger, who joined NBT in December 2013, has more than 30 years of retail and commercial banking experience at financial institutions in Berkshire County. He will be responsible for serving existing customers and developing new commercial relationships throughout the county. He will work with NBT's commercial banking relationship manager, Kevin Bisaccio.

Headquartered in Norwich, N.Y., NBT entered the Berkshire market in 2011 when it acquired four former Legacy Bank branches that were closed following the merger between Berkshire and Legacy banks. NBT purchased its Lenox branch directly from Berkshire Bank.

NBT Bank has $7.7 billion in assets and operates 126 locations in New York, Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
