New comedy, "peerless," begins Thursday at BSC's St. Germain Stage

PITTSFIELD >> Jiehae Park's comedy, "peerless," begins performances Thursday at Barrington Stage Company's St. Germain Stage, where it is scheduled to run through Aug. 6.

Press opening is 3 p.m. Sunday.

" peerless" tells the story of brilliant, ambitious twin sisters L and M when they realize that perfect academics and superb extracurricular activities aren't enough to get into their dream college, so they decide to take matters into their own hands.

Directed by Louisa Proske, "peerless" features Sasha Diamond as M, Ethan Dubin as D/D's Brother, Ronald Alexander Peet as BF, Laura Sohn as L, and Adina Verson as Dirty Girl/Preppy Girl.

Proske directs classical theater, new plays and opera. Her work has been seen at Barrington Stage (last season's "Engagements"), Assembly at Edinburgh, The Tank, Yale School of Drama, Heartbeat Opera (where she is co-artistic director) and Dell'Arte Opera.

In addition to "peerless," Park's plays include "Hannah and the Dread Gazebo" (Oregon Shakespeare Festival premiere, 2017). She is one of the writers of "Wondrous Strange" (2016 Humana Festival of New American Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville. She has or has had commissions from Playwrights Horizons, McCarter Theatre, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Geffen Playhouse. She also has had residencies at, among others, MacDowell and Yaddo.

Performances at St. Germain Stage in the Sydelle and Lee Blatt Performing Arts Center at 36 Linden St. are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday with 3 o'clock matinees Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

There is no matinee this Thursday or Saturday.
