New eatery at Greenock Country Club

LEE -- A pair of Great Barrington residents want to find more year-round uses for the clubhouse at Greenock Country Club.

David Pullaro and Cindy Joyner of C & D Catering have taken over the operation of Greenock’s bar, lounge and banquet facility at the 9-hole public golf course on West Park Street.

Under the name Fiddleheads Grille, formerly known as Pauline’s, the two veterans of the food service industry have a lease agreement through Dec. 31, 2015 with Greenock to operate a full service restaurant for lunch and dinner, as well as for special functions.

For years, the clubhouse has been a popular location for wedding receptions, anniversary and class reunion dinners and other large gatherings. The duo hopes to better promote it as an everyday eatery.

"I’d like the restaurant part to take hold in the community as it’s been under-utilized," said Pullaro.

A former manager of the Lenox Club and most recently the chef at Perigee in South Lee, Pullaro and Joyner have a combined 50 years of restaurant experience.

However, Fiddleheads -- named for an edible fern -- is the first business they can call their own.

"We’ve worked many years for others, now we can do it for ourselves," Joyner said.

Fiddleheads as already hosted a couple of special events, with several planned St. Patrick’s Day weekend in March. Pullaro and Joyner expect to be fully operation around April first, as they await the final OK for a liquor license.

On Feb.18, the Lee Board of Selectmen awarded the new restaurateurs an all-alcohol restaurant license, subject to approval by the Massachusetts Alcohol Beverage Control Commission.

Pullaro noted Fiddleheads will continue to seek one-day liquor licenses for special events, until the permanent license takes effect.
