New owner set to reopen Mister Tire under new name

NORTH ADAMS — As rapidly as it closed, Mister Tire is set to reopen — under new ownership and a new name.

The city's Planning Board signed off Monday on plans to convert the former Mister Tire at 528 Curran Memorial Highway into a Vianor, which plans to provide many of the same services as the flagship city business did prior.

"We plan to continue the drive-through tire service, like has been done at this location since 1992, hopefully keep all the employees and continue to do business as it has been," said Vianor President Jason Phelps.

Based in Essex Junction, Vt., Vianor purchased the business effective July 1, according to its application to the planning board. The company has 10 locations throughout the Northeast that tailor to tire services.

Mister Tire owner Larry Davis announced earlier this year that, after nearly four decades in business, he planned to retire and would sell the business.

Vianor's plans for the building include painting its facade and replacing its signage this summer, according to Phelps. The remaining three sides of the building would be painted by the summer of 2017 at the latest, he told the Planning Board.

The company has also designed a new customer waiting room, allowing the business to separate its patrons from the work area.

"For numerous reasons we want to have a disconnect so the customers can't get into the work area," Phelps said.

Phelps said initial plans to open the business by Aug. 1 may have been a bit optimistic, and suggested Aug. 8 may be more accurate. A local contractor is ready to go, he said, "because we want to do all of our construction inside before we open."

"I think we have big shoes to fill," Phelps said. "I have [heard] very positive feedback."
