New play at Shakespeare & Company, "Ugly Lies the Bone," begins previews
LENOX >> Shakespeare & Company is presenting the regional premiere of Lindsey Ferrentino's "Ugly Lies the Bone" in the Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre, 70 Kemble St.
Previews are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Thursday, and 3 p.m. Sunday. Press opening is 7:30 p.m. next Friday.
The production is scheduled to run in repertory through Aug. 28.
Daniela Varon is directing this drama about a combat veteran named Jess, who comes home to Florida after three tours in Afghanistan bearing deep physical and emotional scars. An innovative, experimental video game therapy offers an escape from her excruciating pain.
Christianna Nelson is playing Jess. Also in the cast are Hamish Allan-Headley, Ariel Bock, Dylan Chalfy and Rory Hammond.
"I fell in love with this play the first time I read it," Varon says in a news release. "The playwright's thematic landscape encompasses so many timely subjects — such as the changing role of women in the military, how we see or don't see our veterans, and how we care for our elderly."
"Ugly Lies the Bone" earned Ferrentino a Special Citation of Excellence from The Laurents/Hatcher Foundation in 2015.
Ticket information is available online at shakespeare.org; by phone at (413) 637-3353; or in person at the Shakespeare & Company box office at 70 Kemble St.
