New short plays sought for fall festival at St. James Place

GREAT BARRINGTON >> Organizers of a festival of new short play are seeking submissions from regional writers irrespective of experience.

Presented by Berkshire Playwrights Lab, the first Radius Playwrights Festival — which will run Nov. 11-13 — will feature staged readings of five short plays created by anyone living within a 50-miles radius of Saint James Place, a new performance space at the former St. James Church at 352 Main St.

The plays will be performed by local actors working with local directors.

Plays must be submitted to by 5 p.m. on Sept. 30.

This is a blind submission process and there is no fee. A panel of experts will read all submissions and choose five plays.

Plays should be:

• Short — Any topic, any style, but keep it to 10-12 minutes (15 minutes max).

• Technically spare — Lights up, lights down, only the most essential props needed to tell the story.

The selected playwrights must be available to participate in the rehearsal process and be present at the performances. Rehearsals begin Nov. 7.
