Nomination process underway for Adams town, school posts

ADAMS — Nomination papers are now available for the May annual town election, which will include important races for two seats on the Board of Selectmen and three seats on the Adams-Cheshire Regional School Committee.

The election has been scheduled 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 2 at the Department of Public Works Garage on North Summer Street.

Select Board Chairman Richard Blanchard has taken out papers to run for another three-year term, according to Town Clerk Haley Meczywor. Selectmen Joseph Nowak's term also is expiring.

On the School Committee, longtime member and Chairman Paul Butler also has taken out nomination papers for another three-year term. The term of James Ryan also is on the ballot.

Other notable positions up for grabs in May will be the town treasurer, two seats on the Planning Board, one assessor, the town moderator, and a spot on the Board of Health.

Treasurer Kelly Rice has already returned her nomination papers.

Candidates for most offices must return their nomination papers to town hall by the end of business hours on March 14.

Unlike candidates for other offices, Incumbent Town Meeting members must notify the Town Clerk by March 7 that they are candidates for re-election.

The deadline for a candidate to withdraw nomination papers is March 30.

The final day for residents to register to vote, if they haven't already, will be on April 20. Registration can be completed online, at the Registry of Motor Vehicles, or at the town clerk's office in Town Hall.
