North Adams: Drury Band to mark 90th anniversary
The 90th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Drury Band will be held Saturday, May 25.
A large exhibit of memorabilia will be displayed in the hallway at Drury. Immediately following the concert, it will be moved to the North Adams Museum of History and Science in Building 5A at Western Gateway Heritage State Park, at the southern end of Hadley Overpass, to be installed as the summer exhibit in the temporary gallery on the first floor.
Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. From 2 to 5 p.m., the chorus and band will rehearse under the direction of the current music personnel, band director Christopher Caproni and chorus director Aldonna Girouard.
Chorus guest conductors this year will be Staci Downey and Scott Bailey. Carl Jenkins serve as guest conductor for the band.
At 5 p.m. all will gather for a buffet dinner catered by the Friends and Parents of the Drury High School Band.
The joint concert will commence at 6:30 p.m. There will be anniversary cake after for the actual 90th celebration. The general public is welcome to attend the concert.
The Eagles Hall has been reserved for a post-concert jam session for the young-at-heart musicians.
The band hopes to welcome and honor the one (known) living member of the original band from 1923, Fred Crosier of North Adams who celebrated his 104th birthday in April.
