North Adams man accused of raping woman on two occasions

NORTH ADAMS — A city man is facing charges that he raped and sexually assaulted a woman on two occasions.

Lance Joppich, 44, of North Holden Street, told police he was sexually abused as a child and never believed he "would ever do something like this," according to a police report filed by North Adams Police Det. Kelly Wisniowski.

He pleaded not guilty in Northern Berkshire District Court on Friday to two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14.

Judge Paul Vrabel ordered him held on $5,000 cash bail and scheduled a pretrial hearing for June 3.

In the event that Joppich posts bail, he must be monitored by GPS and abide by a restraining order against him.
