North Adams police shoot, kill deer injured in dog attack
NORTH ADAMS >> City police shot and killed a wounded deer Sunday after it was attacked by a dog.
Two callers reported the attack on Harris Street shortly after noon. When officers arrived, the deer was found to be in significant distress from serious injuries to its rear leg and neck.
The dog was placed in quarantine with its owner, who has not been identified. Police said the owner told them that the dog escaped from a backyard.
Several witnesses to the incident were visibly upset, police said.
The municipal animal control officer and state Department of Energy and Environmental Affairs Environmental Police officers will conduct an investigation into the attack, police said.
