North Adams: Tree lighting and Hometown Holidays kick-off slated Wednesday

Tuesday November 20, 2012

The city will host its annual tree lighting ceremony and Hometown Holidays kick-off event at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Monument Square on Main Street.

The Drury High School Band will be performing a series of holiday melodies and Christmas carols, and First Baptist Church will be giving away hot chocolate.

After the tree lighting, the North Adams Fire Department’s antique Mack Fire Engine will make its way through downtown to host the arrival Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, bearing gifts for the first 500 children.

Hometown Holidays events will take place on Thursdays, Nov. 29, Dec. 6, 13, and 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. Attractions will include holiday crafts, face painting, live music, gallery openings, and more.

The 2012 Hometown Holidays is part of Shop North Adams, a campaign urging people to shop locally.
