North Street is smokers' ashtray
I have to agree with Jo Ann Losinger's letter on Sunday regarding smoking and North Street. As a downtown worker trying to get a bit of fresh air during a lunch break, I literally pass though numerous clouds of irritating cigarette smoke as I walk up the street.
The saddest part is observing the hundreds of butts that litter the sidewalks and are now filling the new planters so expensively built this past year. Since some smokers think North Street is their ashtray, it is up to the merchants, their organizations and hopefully the city to provide proper receptacles for these butts, and hardest of all, public education.
Until this is done we will never enjoy a healthy and litter free downtown.
