Northern Berkshire YMCA fund goal passed

The Northern Berkshire YMCA has exceeded its annual fundraising goal for the third year in a row.

"Many thanks go out to the board of directors, the Y ambassadors, and the hundreds of donors who made our Y a priority with their giving this year," said Justin Ihne, CEO of the Northern Berkshire YMCA.

In 2013, the Northern Berkshire YMCA allocated more than $126,000 through its financial assistance program, which enabled hundreds of youths, families, adults and older adults to attend programs they might not normally be able to afford.

"Our motto at the YMCA is that we don’t turn anyone away for the inability to pay," said David Brown, president and chair of the Northern Berkshire YMCA board of directors. "It is a motto that the staff at the YMCA lives up to each and every day."

The 2014 campaign, which began in January and ended in March, saw a 20 percent increase in donors over 2013.

"We were and are very humbled to see all different levels of giving come through our Y," Ihne said. "We want to thank everyone who gave and we proudly display the donors in our lobby at the Y."

Members of the Northern Berkshire YMCA were also pleased at the level of fund raising this year.

"I am thankful for the financial program at the YMCA for childcare," said Danielle Hurlbut, a parent of a child in the day care program. "As a single parent, it has helped me to be able to afford the (child care) program, which allows me to work."

The Northern Berkshire YMCA served more than 6,500 people in 2013. The Northern Berkshire YMCA is still excepting donations through-
out the year.
