Not buying pols' SNAP charade

Friday July 26, 2013

To the editor of THE EAGLE:

Various politicians, including our own gaggle, are participating in a highly publicized effort to live on Food Stamps, or SNAP as the program is now called. This is one of the most blatantly dishonest stunts that I have seen in a long time.

It was never intended that you should be able to live on SNAP benefits. The "S" in SNAP stands for "supplemental." SNAP is intended to help out, not to cover all food costs.

I hope that the politicians are merely ignorant. The Eagle ought to blow the whistle rather than cheer. ED DARTFORD
