NY roadwork to halt during busy July 4 travel week

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Motorists going through New York will get a break from construction during the busy July Fourth travel week.

The New York State Thruway Authority will suspend construction projects in New York City and from Kingston to Canajoharie starting Wednesday. Work will resume on Monday.

State police will also be out conducting safe driving enforcements.

All 27 travel plazas along the 641-mile Thruway will be open regular hours for the Fourth of July holiday.

Last year, more than 6.5 million vehicles traveled more than 216 million miles on the Thruway during the July Fourth period.
