Oggiani pitches Monument baseball to season-opening win

SOUTHWICK -- Peter Oggiani helped Monument Mountain’s baseball team start the season with a win Saturday, giving up just one run in five innings of pitching while driving in three runs with his bat in a 9-1 Spartan win.

Monument’s first four hitters -- Trevor McFarland, Dominic DeFelice, Bobby Kinne and Oggiani -- had 10 of the Spartans’ 14 hits. Kinne drove in two runs for the victors.

"The top of the order was solid today. They did a good majority of the damage," Monument coach Tom Hankey said.

"The pitcher was around the plate most of the day. We got up there and were pretty much in attack mode."

Oggiani struck out three in his five innings, giving up three hits.
