One-car crash sends three to hospital in Williamstown

WILLIAMSTOWN-- A single-car accident late Thursday morning on Cold Spring Road in Williamstown, resulted in three people being transported to the hospital.

A 1996 Honda Civic struck and split a utility pole near Mezze Bistro & Bar around 11:44 a.m., according to the Williamstown Police Department. Town firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver and two passengers from the vehicle.

The three were then brought to Berkshire Medical Center via Village Ambulance with unspecified, non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the vehicle is registered to a woman in Pittsfield. They are withholding the identities of the victims while the investigation continues.

Cold Spring Road, which is part of Route 7, was closed to all traffic for nearly two hours after the crash while the scene was cleared. The road was then reopened to one lane of traffic Thursday evening, while crews from National Grid and Verizon continued to work to replace the crash-damaged utility pole.
