Organizers: Al Gore's daughter among 23 arrested in protest

BOSTON >> Organizers say the daughter of former Vice President Al Gore was among 23 people who were arrested during a protest of a Boston pipeline.

WCVB-TV (http://bit.ly/299BxEz ) reports the arrests happened Wednesday during a protest of Spectra Energy's so-called West Roxbury Lateral pipeline.

The group organizing the event, Resist the Pipeline & Stop the West Roxbury Lateral, says 42-year-old Karenna Gore traveled from New York to join the demonstration.

She was among demonstrators that tried to block construction activity on the site by lying in a trench for the pipeline. The group says it opposes the pipeline because of safety and climate change concerns.

Spokespersons for Houston-based Spectra Energy didn't immediately comment Thursday. The 5-mile long pipeline is part of larger, $1 billion project.

The arrested protesters are expected to be arraigned Thursday on charges including resisting arrest and disturbing the peace.
