Organizers seeking push to meet goal

Wednesday June 30, 2010

PITTSFIELD -- The Pittsfield Fourth of July Parade Committee is looking for help to meet its fundraising goal for this year's parade.

The Parade Committee has raised $58,961 toward its goal of $85,000. This year's parade theme is "We, the People!"

Organizers hope a final push for private donations, corporate sponsorships and money raised from a special concert in two weeks will help parade officials reach their goal.

Since the parade returned in 1978 under the direction of the independent, nonprofit parade committee, it has grown to 125 marching units featuring local and regional bands, spectacular floats and military veterans organizations viewed by tens of thousands of people along the parade route and on local community television.

The parade will begin from the intersection of South and West Housatonic streets at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 5, and follow the new route established last year. The participants will march straight from South Street to North Street and proceed to Wahconah Park.

Donations can be sent to the Pittsfield Parade Committee Inc., P.O. Box 1738, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
