OSHA reduces fine against company in worker's drowning in Longmeadow
LONGMEADOW >> Federal officials have reduced a fine against a construction company that was found negligent in the death of a worker in Longmeadow.
Reports say that the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration reduced a $14,000 fine imposed on A. Martins & Son Construction to $10,000.
OSHA fined the Ludlow company after finding it in serious violation of workplace standards following the July 31 death of 28-year-old Davide Nascimento.
Officials said portion of roadway for the sewer excavation collapsed and broke a water main pipe. A trench then flooded with water, trapping and drowning Nascimento. His body was later pulled from the trench.
OSHA officials have said that the company didn't properly protect the water line from damage and that Nascimento wouldn't have died if proper procedures had been followed.
