Othello comes to Manchester


MANCHESTER -- Shakespeare on Main Street brings "Othello" to Manchester. Performances will be at the BBA Riley Center at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, and Saturday, Aug. 2, and at 2 p.m. Sun., Aug. 3.

Set in 2014, this production shows Othello, a highly respected military general, tricked into destroying the woman he loves through the machinations a political rival.

The tragedy, layered with racial tension, pits Iago, Shakespeare's greatest villain, against Othello, and love against jealousy and pride.

Keith Smith of Burlington plays Othello, along with a cast of well-known regional actors, including Caroline Hogan as Desdemona, Todd Houston as Iago, and Danielle Houston as Emilia.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors, active military and students; and free for children under 12. To reserve tickets, call (802) 366-0110.

Shakespeare on Main Street is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing Shakespeare to Vermont audiences. The company depends largely on donations to support its productions.
