OUI charges filed after car goes airborne, rolls over
PITTSFIELD -- An allegedly drunk driver escaped injury on Monday night after her car became airborne and crashed into a parked car on Crane Avenue, authorities said.
Debra Lindsey, of Hinsdale, was traveling west at about 9:20 p.m. when she lost control of her Subaru Legacy near 146 Crane Ave., according to Pittsfield police.
As Lindsey attempted to negotiate a sharp curve, she went off the road and hit a sloped lawn, police said. The vehicle became airborne, just missing a utility pole before slamming into an SUV parked in front of home's garage and landing on its passenger side.
The driver managed to climb out of her vehicle, police said.
Investigating officers, who administered a field sobriety test, said they plan at least to charge Lindsey with operating under the influence.
The residents of the home apparently are on vacation, according to police and neighbors who had gathered at the crash scene.
