Town office schedules for the holiday season have been announced.

The Selectmen will not hold their weekly meeting on Tuesdays, Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. Their next meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8.

Most offices will be closed. A schedule will be posted at each entry door of the Town Hall.

The Cheshire Library will be closed Monday, Dec. 24, through Wednesday, Jan. 2. The Library will reopen Thursday, Jan. 3, from 1 to 5 p.m.


VFW Post 9144 will hold its monthly pancake and French toast breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. on Sunday. The breakfast is held the fourth Sunday of every month.


Dog licenses are due Jan. 1 of each year and are now available at the town clerk’s office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Licensing fees remain at $25 for a male or female, $20 for spayed or neutered, and multiple pet permits for four to six dogs are $20 per dog.

Valid rabies certificate and proof of altering must be provided at the time of licensing if this data is not already on file. An informational insert offering the option of licensing by mail will be included with the annual census and is also available at the dalton-ma.gov website.

The form can be mailed along with the proper fee(s) and other required documents or placed in the drop box on the Town Hall side porch.

State law requires that all dogs and cats six months of age or older be vaccinated against rabies and veterinarians are required by law to report this information to town clerks.


First Congregational Church of South Egremont will hold its annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 7 p.m. There will be traditional carols entwined with the story of Christmas. The service will end with a circle of all participating in the lighting of candles and singing of "Silent Night." All are invited. Information: (413) 528-2368.


One of Egremont’s two School Committee members has resigned effective Dec. 17 as he is moving from the area. The Board of Selectmen must appoint a replacement.

Those interested should write a letter of interest to the Selectmen by Jan. 2 and plan to attend the Selectmen’s meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, for a short interview.

Applicants should give a little of their background and the reasons why they would like to be on the School Committee.

Great Barrington

Terry A La Berry and Friends will present a special post-holiday concert at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Berkshire South Regional Community Center, 15 Crissey Road. Children will have an opportunity to sing, dance, hop and bop for an hour of fun. Admission is free, although donations will be accepted.


The Town Collector has announced that real estate and personal property tax bills for fiscal 2013 have been released.

The first half was mailed out on Dec. 18 and is due Jan. 17, 2013, in the Town Collector’s office. Date of postmark will not be accepted. Interest of 14 percent will be added to all late payments.

This bill covers the period of July 1 through Dec. 31.

The Town Collector’s office hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The Christmas Eve service of story and song will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Monterey Meetinghouse. All are welcome.


Peru Congregational Church will hold a Christmas Eve service led by the Rev. Warren Scamman at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. All those in attendance will receive a gift. Light refreshments and a birthday cake honoring Jesus will be served in the chapel following the service. The church at 2 West Main Road is handicap accessible.


The Pittsfield Public Schools will be closed for holiday recess from Monday, Dec. 24 through Tuesday, Jan. 1. Schools will reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
