Owens and Underwood lead after second day of the Pewter Cup

PITTSFIELD >> The Torrington Country Club duo of Addison Owens and Ray Underwood held onto a slim lead after day two of the Berkshire Hills Pewter Cup after firing a second-round 2-under-par 70. The duo currently sits at minus-7 (137) through 36 holes of the event, and holds a one-shot lead over Adam Brickle (BHCC) and Chad Alibozek (Taconic).

Owens and Underwood will have plenty of pursuers on Sunday as six teams are within four shots of the lead. Brickle and Alibozek shot the round of the day with a 5-under-par 67 to sit at 138 and will be in the final pairing. Sitting just two shots back are 2014 champions Billy McDonald and John Kelly (68-71-139) and Adam and Josh Trivilino (68-71-139). Another shot back at 140 are the teams of Frank Geiger and Mike Fitzpatrick along with Glenn and Mike Stopera.

The Greenock Country Club duo of Matt and Tom Keenan Jr. sit at 141 after a 70 in round two.

Owens and Underwood carded three birdies against a bogey for their 2-under-par 70. Alibozek and Brickle bogeyed their first hole of the day (10th hole) before rattling off six birdies to close the gap on the leaders. Alibozek birdied the 11th while Brickle birdied 18 to make the turn in one under. They birdied the par three third and par five fourth to move to three under and then closed with a flourish. Alibozek made a deuce on the difficult par 3 seventh before Brickle closed the day with a birdie on the long par 4 ninth hole for 67.

The leaders are scheduled to go off Sunday at 2 p.m.
