Pantries enjoy a successful holiday

Saturday December 8, 2012

On behalf of the local food pantries of Pittsfield we would like to publicly thank a number of organizations that made our first united Thanksgiving Turkey Day such a success. Today we read so much of what is wrong, that no one cares about their neighbor, but this undertaking certainly proves that way of thinking to be erroneous.

The pantries involved in this collaboration were: South Congregational Church, which hosted the event, Christian Center of Pittsfield, St. Joseph Church, First United Methodist of Pittsfield, St. Mark Food Pantry, The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts and Soldier On. In addition, we would also thank the members of these groups who contributed money, canned goods and turkeys.

The greater Pittsfield community backed our project with its financial support, including the Rotary Club of Pittsfield, Pittsfield Lions Club, UNICO, Berkshire Bank Foundation, CIAO, Berkshire Regional Planning, Camp Danby and Apollo. We also want to extend a sincere thanks to our youth of the community who helped throughout the day: Berkshire Hills Regional School District students and St. Joseph Central High School students.

The recipients were so grateful to have such a bounteous Thanksgiving due to the generosity of the greater Pittsfield and beyond community.
