Park Sq. rallies distract drivers

Wednesday May 2, 2012

I commend Greylock Credit Union and Johnson Ford for their effort to educate teens on distracted driving.

Texting and even talking on a cellphone while driving is a big problem. I remember learning to drive as a teen, and navigating Park Square was the big test. Even with the new traffic pattern I think it is still a scary and dangerous intersection. So why does Pittsfield allow politicians and their supporters and demonstrators to gather there and deliberately distract drivers? Crowds of people are allowed to stand there yelling and waving and holding up signs that they want us to read while we’re trying to drive through several lanes of traffic. Would you want your teen learning to drive there?

I think the Common would be a better place for gatherings and demonstrations.
