Passionate voice for sportsmen

Saturday January 19, 2013

A man who was passionate about events in his life left us earlier this month. Larry Goggia was a 50-year member of the Pittsfield Sportsmen’s Club and its treasurer for 40 years. I belonged to the club for a few years and got to know him.

Larry was passionate about his affiliation with the club, which for him was nearly a life-long affiliation. He was knowledgeable about the club’s financial status, including tax exempt organizations and membership dues. Larry’s depth of passion for his activities was incredible. He passed that passion on to other members of the club or the people he knew.

Larry also said that "A home is not a home unless you have a dog to go with it." In the time I knew him, he had two wonderful dogs that he loved dearly.

I am terribly sad that Larry is no longer with us, but am glad that I had the chance to know him. Here’s to you, Larry, may you rest in peace.
