Patriot Suites owners plan $1M transformation from hotel to timeshares
PITTSFIELD -- The owner of the shuttered Patriot Suites Hotel on Dan Fox Drive is planning a $1 million renovation to transform the complex into 142 timeshare units.
Patriot Resorts Corp. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., is seeking a change of use designation and building permit for the conversion work, which is focused on the kitchen areas in each one-bedroom unit. After a construction period estimated at roughly four months, the units would be marketed as timeshares.
Project architect Vincent P. Guntlow, of Guntlow & Associates Inc. architects of Williamstown, said Thursday the conversion is something that was planned for in the original hotel construction project as likely to be undertaken in the future.
The hotel was constructed in 2004-05 and shut down in early 2010, with owners saying they were considering other uses for the complex.
It was originally referred to as in part a place to house people considering timeshare units at Vacation Village in Hancock -- owned by the same company and located across from Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock.
"This was designed and permitted knowing it would be converted," Guntlow said.
He said the work, by general contractor Salco Construction Co. of Pittsfield, will include reconfiguring and remodeling work in the kitchen areas, new appliances, cabinets and countertops, as well as some flooring work and painting.
The hotel suites were built with kitchenettes rather than full kitchens, Guntlow said.
No alterations are planned in the common areas of the resort at this time. These include a lobby and dining area, a fitness center and pool.
A.V.P Corporate Development of Williamsburg, Va., a company associated with the owners, is listed on the project permit application as the applicant.
