Pepperell detective uses stun gun to disarm man with machete
PEPPERELL, MASS. >> Police say a detective successfully deployed a stun gun to disarm a man who charged at officers with a machete over the weekend in Massachusetts.
Officers were dispatched to a residence in Pepperell shortly before midnight Saturday following reports of a man wielding a large knife.
Police say the suspect, who wasn't identified, ran out of the Hollis Street home toward Detective Tom Maskalenko with the machete. After the man refused Maskalenko's orders to put down the weapon, the detective disarmed him with his stun gun.
Police say the officers believed the man was "agitated and disturbed," and may have been attempting "suicide by cop."
He will undergo a mental health evaluation at an area hospital. Charges are pending. His name was not released.
