Peru voters elect new town clerk

PERU >> Kim Leach is Peru's new town clerk.

By a count of 133-70, Leach defeated Kimberly Wetherell in Saturday's special town election. Leach succeeds Candice Cahalan, who resigned in June for personal reasons, according to town officials.

Turnout was solid for a summer political race — 203 of 595 registered voters, or 34 percent, cast ballots.

Former Ashfield town clerk, Ann Dunne, was hired as a temporary replacement for Cahalan and oversaw Saturday's election.
