Phone scam targeting Berkshire Gas customers
PITTSFIELD - The Berkshire Gas Co. has recently received reports from business customers who say they have received fraudulent calls seeking immediate payment of their Berkshire gas accounts by credit card over the phone.
According to Berkshire Gas, the caller claims that the account is overdue and requires immediate payment. Several of the fraudulent calls have showed up as originating from (617) 419-5406 in the recipients’ caller ID. Berkshire Gas has reported this information to the Massachusetts State Police, the state Attorney General’s Office, and the state Department of Public Utilities,
In a statement, Berkshire Gas said the company never seeks immediate payment of overdue accounts by credit card, or any other method over the telephone
Those who receive these calls should call the Berkshire Gas customer information center at (800) 292-5012 to report it.
