Pittsfield: 17-Year-old pianist to give solo recital


Paul Celebi, a piano student of Berkshire Music School faculty member Jean Stackhouse, will be giving a solo recital at 5 p.m. Monday, June 16, in the Taft Recital Hall, located directly behind BMS at 30 Wendell Ave. The concert is free and open to the public.

His recital program includes Bach, Mozart, Satie, three Debussy Preludes, and the third Ballade by Chopin.

Celebi is 17 years old, a junior at Pittsfield High School and resides in Pittsfield. He recently placed first in the Berkshire Music School Merit Competition, and second in the Uel Wade Scholarship competition.

He was a prize winner this past spring at the Westfield University piano concerto competition. He performed a movement of a Beethoven piano concerto with the BMS chamber orchestra, and a number of chamber pieces with Pittsfield High Orchestra.

Last summer, Celebi attended the New York Summer Music Festival and this summer will be attending the Cooper Piano Festival at Oberlin and Westminster Choir College solo piano week, in addition to returning to NYSMF.
