Pittsfield: American Legion to sponsor oratorical contest

American Legion District 1 announces a high school oratorical contest to be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, at the American Legion on Wendell Avenue.

This contest is part of the 76th annual American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program.

Eligible participants must be citizens of, or lawful, permanent residents of the United States and must be students under the age of 20, enrolled in a public, parochial, private or state accredited high school.

The prepared oration must be based on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution, which will give emphasis to the attendant duties and obligations of a citizen to the government.

Application forms are available at all high schools and must be postmarked by Dec. 31.
