Pittsfield: Athenaeum to offer genealogy workshops


The Berkshire Athenaeum has announced the next series of free genealogy workshops.

Three workshop sessions for novices include "Organizing Your Records and Planning Your Research" and "Introduction to Census Research" on Thursday, Sept. 11; "Using Vital Records" and "Beginning Immigration Research" on Thursday, Sept. 18; and "Introduction to Ancestry.com" (library edition) on Thursday, Sept. 25.

Workshops will be held from 10 a.m. to noon; the morning session will be repeated from 1 to 3 p.m. No prerequisites are required.

A four week workshop, "Continuing Your Genealogy Research using the Census and Other Resources" will be held Tuesdays, Sept. 30 to Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 3 p.m. An established email address is required and participants must attend all four classes.

All workshop participants may bring a laptop or use a library laptop.

The workshops are sponsored by the Athenaeum’s Local History Department and the Berkshire Family History Association. Early registration is recommended by calling (413) 499-9480, ext. 6.
