Pittsfield: Auto excise tax bills due March 31

The first mailing of 2016 Automobile Excise Tax bills were mailed out on March 1 and will be due Thursday, March 31.

Late payments will be assessed 12 percent interest along with a $15 demand.

The assessment is based on a $25 per $1,000 valuation.

Those who have received a bill for vehicles that they have sold, traded or junked should apply with their bills, plate cancellation receipt and to whom the vehicle was sold, traded or given to as well as their new registration to the Board of Assessors.

Taxpayers who have moved out of state will need their Massachusetts plate cancellation receipt and a copy of their out-of-state registration in order to apply to the Board of Assessors for an adjustment.

Payment can be made online at www.cityofpittsfield.org; via phone at 877-565-1167; in person at the Collector's Office, City Hall; or by mail to the City of Pittsfield, Collector's Office, P.O. Box 981063, Boston, MA 02298-1063.

Online and telephone payments will incur a small fee.
