Pittsfield: Berkshire Athenaeum opens writing contests


The Berkshire Athenaeum and The Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum announce the 38th annual short story writing contest for children and the 19th annual short story writing contest for young adults.

Contests open Monday, May 2. Forms are available at the children's desk.

Five age divisions cover ages 5 to 18 as of June 1. If there are not at least 10 entries in a division, it may be combined with another.

Stories will be judged on their originality, appeal and writing style. Cash prizes will be awarded in each division.

All entries, whether delivered in person or by mail, must be received by the Berkshire Athenaeum Children's Library, 1 Wendell Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201, by 4 p.m. Monday, July 18.

An awards ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, in the Berkshire Athenaeum auditorium.
