Pittsfield: BMC offers free pre-diabetes education sessions in June

Berkshire Medical Center’s Diabetes Education Program is offering free educational sessions on pre-diabetes in June.

The sessions are designed for those whose physician have told them their blood sugar levels are elevated but not high enough to be considered diabetes, or for those who have been told they are at risk for diabetes.

The programs will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays, June 16 and 23, in Private Dining Room C at BMC, located near the BMC Café, and attendees should plan on attending both dates. The programs will be presented by Julie Shepard, registered dietitian at BMC.

Those interested in participating are also asked to take a brief survey that can help them determine whether they are at risk for pre-diabetes or diabetes. The survey can be printed out by visiting the Berkshire Health Systems website, www.berkshirehealthsystems.org, and is located on the homepage.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required. To register, call the BHS Diabetes Education Program at (413) 395-7942 or register online through the BHS website, www.berkshirehealthsystems.org.
