SHREWSBURY -- The Pittsfield boys lacrosse team ran into a tough foe in the Western-Central Mass. Division II boys lacrosse tournament on Wednesday, falling behind quickly and suffering a 19-0 loss to St. John’s of Shrewsbury to end their season.

The Pioneers shared the ball, with 11 different St. John’s players scoring goals and the team being credited with 11 assists. St. John’s was strong on the defense end as well -- goalie Hunter Gaither only needed to make one save.

Parker Jean led St. John’s with five goals and two assists.

"[St. John’s] is a very good team," said Pittsfield coach Scott Aitken, whose team had defeated Chicopee Comp in a preliminary round game."Our kids played hard, they’re just a different level than we are.

"Not the way you’d like to end your season, but all the kids played really hard against a tough team. We didn’t take advantage of the few chances we did get."

Pittsfield finished the season with a 13-6 record.
