Pittsfield: Children's chorus begins rehearsals

The Blafield Children's Chorus begins rehearsals for its spring season at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Unitarian Church located at the corner of Wendell Avenue and Broad Street.

The chorus is open to all children ages 6-14 from Berkshire County and surrounding areas.

The main Blafield Children's Chorus is an auditioned chorus comprised of boys and girls in fourth through ninth grade. During their weekly 90 minute rehearsal, the choristers receive intensive musical and vocal training.

There is also a start-up chorus for all interested boys and girls in grades 1 to 4. There is no audition for the start-up chorus. This group meets at 10 a.m. Saturdays for a one-hour session. Rehearsals are designed to teach basic musical and performance skills.

The Blafield Children's Chorus is one of a family of choruses comprising Berkshire Lyric.

Performances will include Berkshire Lyric's annual Kick the Winter Blues concert on March 20, the Young Musicians Concert on May 1, and a concert with the Berkshire Lyric Chorus at Tanglewood's Seiji Ozawa Hall on May 29.
