Pittsfield: Christine Stafford celebrates 100 years

PITTSFIELD — Christine Stafford of Berkshire Town Apartments on Columbus Avenue celebrated her 100th birthday on June 25 with a surprise party given by her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Wesley Sagendorph of Pittsfield.

The party at St. Joseph's Parish reception hall was attended by relatives and friends.

A pizza party in Mrs. Stafford's honor will be held today at Berkshire Town.

Mrs. Stafford, the former Christine Molkowski of Pittsfield, was employed by the former St. Luke's Hospital as a sewer in the laundry department. She joined Berkshire Medical Center following the merger with St. Luke. She retired from BMC in 1981.

She and her husband of 72 years, the late Robert Stafford, were married June 1, 1936. He died Dec. 22, 2008.

Mrs. Stafford enjoys getting together with family, playing bingo, cards, and Wii bowling, and going out to eat.

In addition to her daughter Beverly, Mrs. Stafford has five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-granchildren. A daughter, Christine Shaw, and a son, Robert E. Stafford, are deceased.
