Pittsfield: "Cop on Top" fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics

Posted

Law enforcement officers from the Pittsfield Police Department, Berkshire County Sheriff's Office and other local and state police agencies, will be taking part in the sixth annual "Cop on Top" fundraiser for Special Olympics Massachusetts this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5 and 6.

Local officers will volunteer their free time to stand atop the Pittsfield Walmart until they reach their fundraising goal of $55,000. Event organizers are hoping to surpass that goal.

The fundraiser also features food, a huge prize raffle and giveaways.

The event will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday with the Pittsfield Fire Department hoisting the first group of officers on the roof. Local Special Olympic athletes will light the ceremonial Special Olympic cauldron that will burn throughout the event.
