Pittsfield emergency crews rescue man who fell through Pontoosuc Lake ice — twice

PITTSFIELD — A local man fell through the ice on Pontoosuc Lake — twice — the second time after he managed to get out but returned to the lake to retrieve some fishing equipment.

Emergency crews were called out at about 2 p.m. on Sunday for a report of two men who had fallen through the ice near the Rusty Anchor Club and Marina.

The two men had managed to extricate themselves from the lake by the time emergency crews arrived a short time later. However, one man decided to return to the lake to retrieve some equipment, against the advice of emergency personnel.

The next thing that happened, to quote the Pittsfield Police Department Facebook post: "You guessed it. [He] fell through again."

The man was pulled out, according to police.
