Pittsfield: Fire Department announces online guide to home fire sprinklers

The Pittsfield Fire Department has announced a new online interactive guide from the National Nonprofit Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition that provides information about home fire sprinklers.

The "Ask for Them!" consumer guide is ideal for safety-conscious consumers who are building new homes or are just simply interested in learning about home fire sprinklers.

"When you’re building your dream home, there are a lot of options to consider. Safety should be at the forefront of those choices," said Randy Stein, fire inspector at the Pittsfield Fire Department.

"But if a homebuilder doesn’t offer fire sprinklers as an option, homebuyers need to know to ask for them, and they need to know the facts about fire sprinklers as well as life-saving benefits," said Stein.

The new guide is available on HFSC’s website and includes 11 brief video segments answer common questions about home fire sprinklers and debunk the myths. The videos also explain fire sprinkler technology and how it works.

The Pittsfield Fire Department is one of 2,500 fire departments nationwide that are designated "Built for Life" fire departments by HFSC, due to its commitment to making home fire sprinkler education a priority in its public education outreach.
