Pittsfield gets best of Drury in battle of undefeated teams in golf


STAMFORD, Vt. -- Pittsfield took its perfect record to Vermont on Tuesday afternoon, and came home with it intact.

Ryan Grande was medalist after shooting a 1-under-par 35 at Stamford Valley Golf Course and the Generals (5-0) beat Drury 157-160, handing the Blue Devils (4-1) their first loss.

"Everything gets magnified when it's a close match," Drury coach Don Dagnoli said. "I give a lot of credit to Pittsfield, coming to a strange course ... they played better golf than we did."

Grande had birdies on the par-5 fourth and par-4 eighth holes. Drury's Matt Lawrence, who shot 35 on Monday, was even-par 36, getting his birdie on the par-4 sixth hole.

LENOX -- Kris Vahle's 41 led the Millionaires, but coach Dick Salinetti lauded the efforts of Lucy Schwartz (44) eighth-grader Noah Hunter (45) in the win.

"Kris shot well, but I was very pleased with Lucy Schwartz and Noah Hunter, who both played well," said Salinetti. "I have a feeling that without them, we'd have been in a little trouble."

The Eagles' Devin Farnum was medalist with a 36.

PITTSFIELD -- Mitch Omelenchuck fired a 2-over-par 37 at Berkshire Hills to lead Taconic to its third win of the year.

Teammate John Keegan added a 42.

"Mitchell has been pretty solid all year," said Braves coach Mike Hillman. "So has John. It's good to be able to rely on these two, and have the rest of the team fill in."

Andrew Beaudoin's 44 led the Warriors.

LEE -- Jared Fadding shot a 1-under 34 at Greenock Country Club as the Wildcats (4-0) remained undefeated.

Fadding had eight pars and a birdie on the par-4 fourth hole.

But it was the back end of the Wildcat lineup that helped secure the victory. J.T. Sorrentino and Thomas Fraser both shot under 50 to help Lee win.

"I'm really happy with our No. 5 and 6 players for helping out Jared and [Devyn Olds]," said Lee coach Matt Keenan. "Our 5 and 6 played better than they actually scored."

SHELBURNE FALLS -- The Hornets had a rough day on the course, falling 18-6 to Pioneer Valley at Edgehill Golf Course.

Brad Tatro's 49 was McCann's lowest round, but it earned the Hornets only 1.5 points. Charles Bohl was the big point-getter, garnering three of the four in his match.

Tatro also had McCann's only birdie, which came on the par-4 fourth.
