Pittsfield girl, 2, dies in apparent drowning, authorities say

PITTSFIELD -- Police are investigating the apparent drowning of a 2-year-old Pittsfield girl over the weekend, according to the Berkshire District Attorney's Office.

In a news release issued Monday afternoon, the DA said the Pittsfield Police Department received a 911 call at about 3:15 on Saturday afternoon reporting the incident.

Authorities say Raquel Paris, of Victor Street, was found under water in the family swimming pool. Emergency Medical Technicians from Action Ambulance rushed the girl to Berkshire Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

An autopsy will be performed Tuesday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston to determine the cause of death, according to the District Attorney's Office.
