Pittsfield: Housatonic River cleanup slated Saturday

The Housatonic Valley Association and the Berkshire Environmental Action Team are organizing a Housatonic River Cleanup on the West Branch from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. Participants will meet at Fred Garner Park, Pomeroy Avenue.

Trash bags, work gloves and lunch will be provided.

Volunteers will be divided into crews and disperse to several locations along the West Branch of the Housatonic River. Volunteers can expect to be in the river as well as on the river banks. A limited number of hip waders will be available to borrow.

A few crews will use canoes to move about the river and transport trash, water level permitting. Participants may bring their own canoe or kayak.

Registration is not required, but helpful for planning crews and lunch. Call HVA at 413-394-9796 or send an email to adixon@hvatoday.org or jane@thebeatnews.org.
